Early Bird two birds drinking coffeeWhat’s your writing rhythm?

Whether you’re responsible for creating content for your organization or you have a cooking blog that enthralls readers eager for your latest installment, you need to have a writing schedule or else it will become stressful rather than a creative blast.

Here’s what works for me

I like to journal and do creative first thing in the morning (like a dweeb) because it clears all the creative cacophony out of my consciousness from the night. More technical writing definitely requires a shot of caffeinated courage and some final research, so I hit that around 10:00 am when my mind is clear and I have the energy to grapple with it.

When there’s a deadline looming I find I can write 24/7, but discovered in college that my thinking is much clearer when I set the alarm super early rather than staying up late. I got up at 4:00 to finish research papers while the house was all quiet and peaceful and it worked for me. I’ll go to bed relatively early with a question on my mind, wake up super early and start writing because my unconscious will have been working on that question while I sleep.

I’m an early morning writer as well. I write through the day when I have client work to do… but like you, my creative energy is strong in the morning.

This is very cool! @4987080f8d299d36710c7015f887972d:disqus says the same thing! Do you journal for your own stuff before doing professional work? That really helps to ground me, though I don’t do it every day.

I am an early bird because I feel my most productive then. As the days goes on, I lose focus and motivation. After 2pm, if it requires me to be creative or work quickly, it’s probably not getting done.

Me too! I find that the lunch break kind of resets my energy into low drive. ;) Am working on breaking out of that but haven’t figured out any reliable tips yet!

I am all over the map. I wish I were more predictable. The good news is that my clients and colleagues can count on me pretty much any time of day or night – just not the same time every day or night…

I am totally an early morning person. I try to knock off all my major writing jobs for the day before my 4yo is up and needs Mama to dress her, take her to school, etc.. And yes, I’m battling the afternoon slump thing myself.. :-)

I find that when I play some music, make myself a cuppa, and get cracking as the sun starts to set… I get a nice run and work into the night with no effort really… just another cuppa or 2 :)
