Do you have a Facebook Fan Page?

If so, does your URL look something like this:

http://www.facebook.com/my-really-great-page-for-real/1034809348348

Sexy, right? ;) I used to have one too!

While updating the quick links page for Pages Gone Wild, Spring Break 2011, I’ve been really surprised by the number of savvy people with page URLs that look like this. It’s easy to overlook until it’s time to share it outside of Facebook.

Wouldn’t you prefer a Page URL to share that looks more like this?

http://www.fb.com/myreallygreatpageforreal

It’s much neater and more understandable to us humans.

Facebook calls it a “Vanity URL.”

Want to create your own?

I found this fantastic tutorial, packed with screen shots and specific advice. Want a video tutorial? Here’s one I created in February. Just turn your volume up all the way. :) Enjoy!

I still see pages without their own custom URL but they thousands of fans. Just think about how easy it is to say facebook.com/myname vs. facebook.com/pages/myname-randomnumbersandletters/something-else. Good idea to point people in the right direction!

      Good point!

Somebody’s just met somebody interesting and wants to exchange information without feeling awkward. Impossible to write down a link full of gibberish to be sure this person sees the right Page!

Thanks for stopping by, Kristi!! :D Lovely to see your smiling face.
